The Business of Marketing Your Art A Workshop by Rene Griffith

Writing your bio and artist statement are something you've been putting off? This workshop is for artists who want to learn how to market themselves and their work, have been putting things off, have been procrastinating, and just don't know where to begin.
This full-day interactive workshop is designed to provide information, encouragement, and inspiration to help you develop a plan for your art career. The structured, yet informal format is an enjoyable way to learn with others who also want to grow as artists.
First we'll analyze your commitment as an artist and learn about your responsibilities as a business owner. This includes scheduling your time, getting organized, determining your mission, and setting goals. You'll learn how to build your business, create an inventory of your artwork, write your bio and artist statement, how to put together a portfolio, approach art galleries, present yourself professionally, and how to talk about your art.
Next we’ll discuss ways you can market and sell your work, marketing venues, getting publicity, writing a press release, use social media, use your database of contacts to send eNewsletters, and start a blog. Finally, we’ll focus on creating an action plan so you can achieve your goals.

About Your Instructor Rene Griffith
Rene Griffith is an artist and photographer who also teaches art marketing workshops. She has a bachelor's degree from the Florida Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Miami. She graduated from a six-month business school for artists called Taking the Leap in Emeryville, CA. As a working artist in San Francisco, she had gallery representation, had a one-woman show, and participated in SF Open Studios for 5 years.
Rene has taught college classes and workshops in California and Florida. She also taught alternative photography workshops as a Creative Uses Consultant for Polaroid. Since 2007 Rene has been licensing her images to fine art publishers and product manufacturers. She lives and works from her studio in Indialantic, Florida and is currently represented by the Thibault Gallery in Beaufort, South Carolina. She also sells in several independent local venues in Orlando and through the Brevard Cultural Alliance Art in Public Places program. Her artwork is in corporate collections in Chicago and Orlando, and is sold worldwide.
